Productivity is hard. Making habits is even harder. One of the tricks that seems to have worked very good for me is the so-called 2 minute rule. Whenever you find it hard to start a specific task just scale the task down to a 2 minute version of it.

This way the task “read a book” becomes “read a page”. “Write a blog post” becomes write a sentence. Do 100 pushups become do 1 pushup.

This article alone started that way, all I had in my mind was writing about this small, but effective(at least for me) productivity trick.

The basic idea behind the rule is to make it easy to get started. Starting is almost always the hardest part of forming a new habit, as momentum will usually help you accomplish the task.

Always ask yourself what is the smallest thing I can do that will move me forward in the right direction.
